Let’s bring Gian Carlo Menotti’s Maria Golovin back to life.
Maria Golovin is the tenth opera of Italian American composer, librettist and stage director Gian Carlo Menotti. Although he was highly successful in the mid-twentieth century, his works are seldom performed on the main opera stages nowadays.
Some of them, among which The Medium, the Telephone and The Consul, gained such popularity at the time that they are still performed nowadays. Maria Golovin’s fate was different – up until now.
Key work in the composer’s career, it also stands as a (re)discovery and deserves to meet its audience in a new production brought to you by Le Souffle d’Orphée opera company.
Le Souffle d’Orphée opera company stems from the friendship between French soprano Clara Leloup and German baritone Christian Hohn. After studying together, they decided to establish their own company to keep working together.
Their goal: the promotion of music and opera by creating new pieces, rediscovering forgotten works or reinventing the great classics. Their wish: making opera available to as many people as possible. Their first project: “Thérapie de Couple” (“Couples Counselling”), a play premiered in 2019 conjugating theater and opera, with actor Vincent Cordier and pianist Katia Weimann.
Le Souffle d’Orphée was careful in selecting a youthful and dynamic cast for this project : professionals who recently started their career after studying in prestigious schools (Paris CNSM, Guildhall School of Music, Paris CRR…).

What we would like to ask you
Nowadays, producing and staging an opera is becoming more and more difficult for a small company like ours.
Public subsidies are becoming rarer, businesses often prefer sponsoring companies with more years of experiences – this is why a crowdfunding campaign seems the ideal way to support our project!
We do not wish to finance our project with this crowdfunding campaign only, but it would be the springboard to bring it to life in good conditions!
Every donation (even the smallest) will be a precious help.
We would like to thank you in advance for your help and we hope to meet you very soon!
A warm THANK YOU from the Le Souffle d’Orphée team!
