GRACIAS A LA VIDA
FROM THE BAROQUE MUSIC OF JESUITE MISSIONS TO SOUTH AMERICAN FOLKLORE
Barbara KUSA, soprano & Mariana REWERSKI, mezzo
LA CHIMERA, artistic director Eduardo EGÜEZ
The Spanish presence in South America soon gave rise to an absolutely fascinating musical syncretism, particularly in the Baroque era, whose prodigious richness has recently been rediscovered and which directly influences contemporary musical practices.
For this new program, La Chimera is focusing on an emblematic region of South America, originally made up of Guaraní and Incas territories, later dominated by the Jesuits, to arrive today with the names of Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Chile and Argentina.
« GRACIAS A LA VIDA », NAMED AFTER THE FAMOUS SONG OF THE CHILEAN COMPOSER VIOLETA PARRA, IS A TRIBUTE TO THE MUSIC OF THESE PEOPLES.
Through an « imaginary folklore » that travels through and visits the distinct musical eras of the region, from pre-Columbian origins to famous popular songs by León Gieco, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Alomia Robles, Violeta Parra or Ariel Ramirez.
